We have an exciting new opportunity for an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) specialist to join the Wellcome Sanger Institute Cellular Genetics Programme team.
About the Team/Projects:
The Cellular Genetics programme focus on cell-atlasing and cellular genetics. The programme uses these approaches to map cells in the human body combining cutting-edge methodologies and computational approaches. This enables the understanding of the identity of cells, how they are regulated, the relationships between them and how this can change during development, health, disease and ageing. To interpret these large data sets, multiple scientists and research groups in the Cellular Genetics programme have been using machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. In order to invest in this area more systematically, the programme is now seeking a dedicated team leader developing AI and machine learning methodologies to process and interpret single cell genomics and spatial methods based on next generation sequencing and imaging.
About the Role:
You will be responsible for devising, leading and implementing the AI/ML strategy in collaboration with programme faculty and IT teams. You will support the programme’s research aims by evaluating methodologies, developing and implementing novel approaches and advising on best practice. This will involve working on a number of projects simultaneously with potentially conflicting priorities. You are encouraged to be an active member of the AI/ML community and to share knowledge with the team and wider Institute as appropriate.
You will be an expert in AI and ML technologies, ideally with at least basic molecular and cell biological knowledge, with the ability to create an AI strategy that drives innovative approaches to fulfil research aims.
-PHD in Computational Biology
-Demonstrable experience of leading the development of novel machine learning tools and methodologies
